State Sen. Marty Flynn and his challenger in the Democratic primary election, Jeffrey Lake, will debate on May 7 at 6 p.m. at the University of Scranton\u2019s Brennan Hall.<\/p>\n

The university\u2019s Center for Ethics and Excellence in Public Service will host the debate between the two Democratic candidates seeking the party nomination in the 22nd Senate District primary election on May 19, according to university spokesman Stan Zygmunt.<\/p>\n

Flynn, of Dunmore, a former state representative for the 113th House District, has represented the 22nd District in the state Senate since 2021, when he won a special election to replace former Democratic state Sen. John Blake.\u00a0Lake, of Clarks Summit, is a special education professional.<\/p>\n

The winner of the Democratic primary likely would face presumptive Republican nominee Sharon Soltis Sparano of La Plume Twp. in November\u2019s general election. Sparano, a retired pharmacist, is uncontested for the GOP nomination in the primary.<\/p>\n

The 22nd Senate District includes:<\/p>\n

\u2022 In Luzerne County: Avoca, Dupont, Duryea, Hughestown, Jenkins Twp., Laflin, Laurel Run, Pittston, Pittston Twp., Plains Twp., West Pittston, Wilkes-Barre, Wilkes-Barre Twp., Wyoming and Yatesville.<\/p>\n
