LOWER NAZARETH TWP., Pa.- A pet food distributor based in Northampton County is announcing a new partnership with a West Coast company.<\/p>\n
Phillips Pet Food and Supplies of Lower Nazareth Township is forming a joint venture with\u00a0Central Garden and Pet of Walnut Creek, California.<\/p>\n
Under the terms of the agreement, Central will receive cash proceeds and retain a 20% ownership stake in the new venture. Phillips and its existing investors will hold the remaining 80%, with the new business operating as an independent entity focused on scaling a nationwide distribution platform.<\/p>\n
The joint venture will operate under the Phillips brand and will be led by current Phillips CEO Blaine Phillips.<\/p>\n
Central is a consumer goods company in the pet and garden industries with a portfolio of brands that includes including Amdro, Cadet, Farnam, Nylabone and Pennington. It employs over 6,000 people, primarily across North America.\u00a0<\/p>\n
According to a previous report from the Lehigh Valley Economic Development Corporation, Central began leasing a\u00a0warehouse and distribution facility in Lower Nazareth Township in 2016.<\/p>\n
Phillips was founded in 1938 as a single feed store by Blaine Phillips’ grandfather.<\/p>\n
\u201cPartnering with Central \u2013 an industry leader that shares our values \u2013 marks an exciting new chapter,” Blaine Phillips said, in a news release. “Together, we\u2019re positioned to serve our customers more effectively and expand our reach in new and innovative ways.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to the release, the company now\u00a0has 11 distribution centers across the U.S. and serves pet stores, aquatic stores, feed and farm stores, veterinarians, and more.<\/p>\n
The brands the company carries include Alpo, Cesar, Beneful, Alley Cat, Friskies and Frontline.<\/p>\n
