Elmer Rodriguez and three relievers combined on a five-hitter as the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders defeated the Syracuse Mets, 4-1, at NBT Bank Stadium in New York on Wednesday night.

Rodriguez, the New York Yankees’ No. 3 prospect, earned his first Triple-A win. He allowed two hits in 5.2 innings with two walks, six strikeouts and one hit-batsman. He threw 80 pitches, 49 for strikes.

Bradley Hanner relieved Rodriguez and got the final out in the sixth. In the bottom of the seventh, Syracuse loaded the bases with one out on two singles and a walk. But Hanner struck out Hayden Senger looking, then got Jackson Cluff to pop out to end the threat.

Nick Morabito spoiled the shutout bid in the bottom of the eighth when he greeted Yovanny Cruz with a home run to center field. Cruz retired the next three Mets, then Carson Coleman took over in the ninth and retired Syracuse in order with two strikeouts to notch his first career Triple-A save.

The RailRiders (10-7) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first off Mets starter Christian Scott. Max Schuemann walked with two outs and scored on a double by Spencer Jones. It was Jones’ 19th RBI, which is tied for the International League lead.

Ernesto Martinez Jr. opened the top of the second by sending a 1-0 pitch out to left field for his fourth home run of the season and a 2-0 RailRiders lead.

It stayed that way until the top of the seventh. Seth Brown led off with a double and scored on a Martinez single to make it 3-0.

Schuemann closed the scoring in the top of the ninth when he reached on an error, stole second, stole third and scored when the throw by the catcher was wild for an error.
