City of Erie highlights lead paint amid National Healthy Homes Month<\/p>\n
April is National Healthy Homes Month, which is a federally recognized initiative bringing awareness to the connection between housing conditions and public health.<\/p>\n
The Redevelopment Authority of the City of Erie wants residents to be aware of common safety hazards in the home, including one that many believe is a thing of the past \u2013 lead paint<\/p>\n
Former LORD Corp. property up for sale <\/a><\/p>\n Lead paint is highly toxic and, when present in a household, can even be inhaled through fine particles in the air and is especially hazardous for developing children or pregnant women.<\/p>\n \u201cThere were 78,000 homes built before 1978 and so right now, the City of Erie is a high-risk jurisdiction for lead-based paint, given that we have over 8,000 pre-1940 rental units,\u201d said Executive Director of the Redevelopment Authority Aaron Snippert. \u201cIf you\u2019re a renter, you want to contact your landlord and see if they are willing to participate in our lead hazard control program.\u201d<\/p>\n Safety updates being made to three Erie County roads <\/a><\/p>\n The Lead Hazard Control program provides low-cost remediation for homeowners of low to moderate income.
