{"id":168196,"date":"2026-04-17T03:38:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-17T03:38:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/168196\/"},"modified":"2026-04-17T03:38:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-17T03:38:11","slug":"allegheny-county-police-mask-ban-demands-transparency","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/168196\/","title":{"rendered":"Allegheny County Police Mask Ban Demands Transparency"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New legislation in Allegheny County could soon ban law enforcement from concealing their identity while on duty. <\/p>\n<p>County Councilperson DeWitt Walton tells KDKA Radio the ordinance is focused on transparency and accountability, especially during arrests.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt requires them to identify themselves to identify themselves, it requires their agencies to be responsive, whether state, local or federal,\u201d said Walton.<\/p>\n<p>He says local law can set clear standards for how policing is carried out within county lines.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf an ICE officer violates this, he\u2019s subject to the penalties of this ordinance, he\u2019s subject to prosecution by the local district attorney,\u201d added Walton.<\/p>\n<p>If approved, violators could face up to $500 in fines and 90 days in jail.<\/p>\n<p>Walton says exceptions would be allowed for health and religious reasons, SWAT operations, and approved undercover work.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"New legislation in Allegheny County could soon ban law enforcement from concealing their identity while on duty.
