He says he wants his wife to be released so she can get the help she needs and wants the officer who punched her held accountable.&#8221;It\u2019s wrong. I\u2019m very hurt about it, and I know she is too. It\u2019s an injustice to hit a woman. (I want him) fired, yes, because he still thinks he\u2019s done right. You&#8217;re not a model citizen. You didn\u2019t follow protocol,&#8221; Everette said.It was Wednesday night when officers responded to Forest Way in Pittsburgh&#8217;s Homewood neighborhood for complaints of drug use in an abandoned structure. There, they encountered Everette and Angel Bradford. &#8220;My wife got out from Western Psych. We was talking, and we were in a quiet place where we were talking at that\u2019s off of Frankstown,&#8221; Everette said.Police say the couple had drug paraphernalia. But Everette said it was not drugs.&#8221;My wife is autistic. She has a habit of seeing the beauty of things and picking things off the ground and collecting them,&#8221; he said. When officers asked Bradford to drop what she was holding, they say she did not comply and attempted to run off. Soon after, officers were able to take Bradford into custody. Everette says that\u2019s when officers began to use what he calls excessive force. &#8220;I said, &#8216;Just leave her be.&#8217; He\u2019s still roughing her off, like, trying \u2014 you know? I said, &#8216;Stop, sir,'&#8221; he said.A criminal complaint for Bradford said she bit one of the arresting officers and scratched his leg. &#8220;No way, sir. I saw it from behind, and the camera that someone took saw that that didn\u2019t happen and I knew it did not happen,&#8221; Everette said. &#8220;OK, if she bit you, why didn\u2019t you go to the hospital?&#8221; That\u2019s when you see the officer in this video strike Bradford with a closed fist.This incident is under review by the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. It has also been referred to a use-of-force expert from the Pennsylvania State Police. Another organization looking into this is Pittsburgh&#8217;s Citizen Police Review Board. &#8220;The first thing we have to do is discern whether there is an administrative issue or there is a criminal issue. And the criminal issue, of course, would be whether or not the officer assaulted this woman, or was it an appropriate, justified use of force?&#8221; CPRB executive director Beth Pittinger said. &#8220;Why was she arrested? What did she do? What was the criminal act that got the police involved in the first place?&#8221;Pittsburgh&#8217;s Action News 4 obtained court documents that show Bradford has charges that include aggravated assault, resisting arrest and tampering with evidence. She remained in the Allegheny County Jail Thursday night. Her husband has been charged with obstruction of law and was released Thursday morning on his own recognizance.
