The Pittsburgh Penguins<\/a> are moving on from defenceman Matt Dumba on the eve of the playoffs, as reports indicate the team placed the veteran on waivers for the purpose of contract termination on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Per PuckPedia, because Dumba is in the final year of his current contract, he will not miss out on any pay. This termination means he does not need to report for AHL playoffs. He carried a cap hit of $3.75 million this season in the second of a two-year deal signed with the Dallas Stars<\/a> in 2024.<\/p>\n

Dumba, 31, appeared in 11 games with the Penguins this season, where he scored one goal and recorded three points.<\/p>\n

His last game with the NHL club came on Dec. 7, and he has played in 27 games with the Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton Penguins of the AHL since. He was sent to the AHL club after clearing waivers after the Penguins completed a trade with the Edmonton Oilers<\/a> to acquire Stuart Skinner<\/a> and Brett Kulak<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Dumba, a 13-year NHL veteran, was selected with the seventh-overall pick of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft by the Minnesota Wild<\/a>.<\/p>\n

A former King Clancy<\/a> Memorial Trophy winner, Dumba has played in 748 career NHL games with the Wild, Arizona Coyotes, Tampa Bay Lightning<\/a>, Dallas Stars<\/a> and Penguins.<\/p>\n
