USPS leaders say they are hiring to strengthen their workforce, even as the agency faces serious financial challenges, including projections that it could run out of cash by late 2026.<\/p>\n
A job fair held today in Erie drew what the Postal Service described as \u201caverage\u201d turnout. However, fewer than 20 people had stopped by when we arrived. Despite the small number, USPS officials said that level of attendance is typical.<\/p>\n
The limited turnout comes as the agency faces growing financial uncertainty. National projections warn the Postal Service could run out of cash by late 2026 without changes to its current financial path.<\/p>\n
Even so, the representative we spoke with said the Postal Service has weathered challenges before and will continue serving communities like Erie.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe U.S. Postal Service isn\u2019t going anywhere. We always have mail to deliver. We always need employees. There\u2019s always job security with us,\u201d said Susan Scheffler, postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service.<\/p>\n
