\u201cThe FCMC Board believes the LOI is the first step to achieving long-term viability and continuing to strengthen local access to care for the Fulton County community,\u201d Rodney Walters, FCMC Board\u00a0chair, said.\u00a0\u201cThe Board is eager to continue exploring the benefits this potential affiliation with\u00a0the WVU Health System\u00a0could bring to the community.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n
As part of the\u00a0LOI, the WVU Health System will commit up to $17 million over the next seven years to modernize FCMC, including the installation of EPIC, which will provide seamless integration of the hospital\u2019s electronic medical records and revenue cycle management with WVU Health System; growing clinical services; and expanding access to high-quality care across the community it serves. \u00a0<\/p>\n
FCMC is a\u00a021-bed critical access hospital that\u00a0staffs more than 415 employees.\u00a0It\u00a0includes\u00a0an emergency department;\u00a0cardiology;\u00a0rehabilitation, laboratory, and diagnostic imaging\u00a0services;\u00a0home health;\u00a0a community wellness center; and\u00a0a 67-bed nursing home. It has served\u00a0Fulton, Bedford, Blair, Franklin, and Huntingdon counties\u00a0for more than 70 years.\u00a0It is the only hospital and skilled nursing facility in Fulton County. \u00a0<\/p>\n
In joining the WVU Health System,\u00a0as contemplated by the LOI, FCMC\u00a0would\u00a0become\u00a0part of a broad, integrated network of doctors, hospitals, clinics, and specialized institutes across West Virginia, Southwestern Pennsylvania, Western Maryland, and Eastern Ohio. Today, the WVU Health System, which\u00a0operates\u00a0under the\u00a0brand\u00a0WVU Medicine, has more than 3,500\u00a0licensed beds,\u00a04,000\u00a0clinicians, and\u00a039,000 employees. \u00a0<\/p>\n

The\u00a0finalization of the\u00a0transaction\u00a0contemplated by the\u00a0non-binding\u00a0LOI\u00a0is\u00a0anticipated\u00a0to close on or before\u00a0Jan.\u00a01, 2027, and\u00a0is subject to\u00a0various conditions, including\u00a0the execution of a\u00a0definitive\u00a0agreement,\u00a0regulatory approval, and various closing\u00a0conditions. \u00a0<\/p>\n
