Lecture event: The University of Scranton welcomes Harvard University faculty member Brandon Terry, Ph.D., as the speaker at this year\u2019s Sondra H\u201987 and Morey Myers H\u201912 Distinguished Visiting Fellowship in the Humanities and Civic Engagement Lecture. Terry, Harvard\u2019s John L. Loeb associate professor of the social sciences and co-director of the Institute on Policing, Incarceration and Public Safety at the Hutchins Center for African and African American Research, will speak Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Pearn Auditorium inside Brennan Hall. The lecture, free and open to the public, is titled \u201cShattered Dreams, Infinite Hope,\u201d the same title as his 546-page book released in October. Community awareness event\/adaptive ride: Individual Abilities in Motion, a Scranton-based nonprofit dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities, in collaboration with the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority will host the Bike Buddy Community Awareness Event and Adaptive Ride on April 25 from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. at the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority office, 213 Railroad Ave., Scranton. The event, free and open to the public, is designed to introduce community members \u2014 particularly those living with mobility impairments, balance issues, visual impairments or other physical disabilities \u2014 to the range of adaptive cycling equipment available through I AM\u2019s Bike Buddy Program. Attendees can view and try the equipment, speak with trained volunteers and sign up for a personalized Bike Buddy session on the trail. There will be an appearance by Rifton, a manufacturer of adaptive mobility equipment, who will bring one of their adapted tricycles for attendees to explore. Rifton Trikes are engineered for children and teens who can\u2019t use a standard bicycle. Other adaptive equipment will also be on display. Light refreshments will be provided.
