Philadelphia is going green for Earth Day 2026 with a lineup of eco-friendly events, food specials, and hands-on activities<\/a> across the city. From outdoor markets to museum programming, there are plenty of ways to celebrate sustainability all week long.<\/p>\n

East Market<\/p>\n

East Market will commemorate Earth Day with a community celebration on Wednesday, April 22, from 3 to 6 p.m. at Jefferson Plaza. The open-air event will highlight a range of eco-inspired activities like building fresh flower bouquets, designing flower crowns and ways to snap pictures in a vintage-style photo booth.<\/p>\n

Guests can also check out pet-friendly giveaways\u2014including treats, accessories, and tips on safe plants from Heart + Paw\u2014plus complimentary seed packets to take home. Food and drink specials from East Market vendors will round out the experience, including selections from Mi Vida and The Wayward.<\/p>\n

This Frank Gehry-designed restaurant tucked inside the Philadelphia Museum of Art is celebrating Earth Day with some limited-time specials. On the menu from April 23-24, the restaurant will serve up a Grilled \u201cEarth Day\u201d Veggie Burger topped with umami mayo, arugula, roasted tomato, and crispy red onions, and an Ancient Grains Earth Bowl featuring a blend of grains, avocado, cherry tomatoes, fresh herbs, snap peas, and pumpernickel croutons. Before or after dining, locals can also check out everything exhibit-wise that the PMA has to offer.<\/p>\n

But in April, the woman-owned locale is also celebrating Earth Month with a limited-time specialty drink. Available now through April 30, Philadelphians can pick up Strawberry Kisses, an iced latte made with strawberry rhubarb syrup, topped with sweet basil cold foam, and finished with a sprinkle of strawberry cookie crumbs ($9).<\/p>\n

The best part? For every Strawberry Kisses sold, $1 will be donated to the Fairmount Park Conservancy, a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing Philadelphia\u2019s parks through initiatives like tree planting and the preservation of green spaces.<\/p>\n

The museum\u2019s Earth Day celebration will take place on Saturday, April 25, offering families a full day of nature-inspired play and hands-on learning about conservation. As a release notes, visitors will have the chance to step inside The Planet Earth Challenge\u2019s Rolling Weather Lab, \u00a0meet sea creatures from the Adventure Aquarium, explore how water moves through our communities in an interactive\u00a0watershed\u00a0enviroscape, enjoy a performance by Philly Sensory Theatre, build their own water filter and more.<\/p>\n

Locals can head to West Fairmount Park\u2019s Community Workday on April 22 (from 1 to 4 p.m.) to participate in a volunteer project spent caring for native trees and removing invasive species and trash (all materials and tools will be provided).<\/p>\n

The occasion is meant to commemorate the very first Earth Day celebration in 1970, which included a 30,000-person event on Philadelphia\u2019s own Belmont Plateau in West Fairmount Park.<\/p>\n

Night Kitchen Bakery<\/p>\n

For Earth Day, Night Kitchen Bakery is offering up a treat that gives back. Their limited-edition holiday cookie ($7) will hold as much action for climate change as it does sugar, with proceeds benefitting the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), a nonprofit organization focused on protecting the environment through advocacy and legal action.<\/p>\n

Academy of Natural Sciences<\/p>\n

In 2024, the Academy of Natural Sciences of Drexel University introduced the Confluence Film Festival<\/a>\u2014a multi-week event focused on showcasing environmentally conscious features. In 2026, the occasion has taken over Earth Month (April) with the theme of ‘Seeding the Future.’<\/p>\n

Each installment of the film festival costs $10 and includes a meet-up in Dinosaur Hall, a series of feature-length, short and documentary films, and opportunities to hear from filmmakers, community-based organizations and advocates to learn how you can support the next generation of climate resilience.<\/p>\n

It all concludes on Thursday, April 23, with programming (5:30 to 8:30 p.m.) presented by PHLAFF, with \u00a0a screening of ‘Hasta la Ra\u00edz’, a historical fiction short directed by Nuria Schettino Gonz\u00e1lez, set in 1856 Los Angeles, where a Tongva woman fights to protect her land and daughter. The evening will also feature ‘El Tren y la Pen\u00ednsula’, a documentary by Sky Richards and Andreas Kruger Foncerrada that traces the development of the controversial \u201cMaya Train\u201d project across Mexico\u2019s Yucat\u00e1n Peninsula.<\/p>\n

\nKimpton Hotel Monaco<\/p>\n

The Kimpton Hotel Monaco is using Earth Day (April 22) as an opportunity to highlight its ongoing commitment to sustainability. The boutique hotel dons environmentally conscious concepts throughout its venue, like energy-efficient systems, LED lighting, 100% renewable electricity and refillable bath amenities.<\/p>\n

The hotel is also home to recycling and composting programs, as well as the \u201cChoose to Conserve\u201d initiative, which rewards guests for opting into reduced housekeeping with perks like dining credits, a charitable donation, and late check-out. The hotel\u2019s culinary program at Red Owl Tavern also takes part and features refillable water stations and aluminum bottles. The verdict? Philadelphians can choose a staycation here and feel good about it.<\/p>\n
