{"id":169668,"date":"2026-04-18T22:37:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-18T22:37:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/169668\/"},"modified":"2026-04-18T22:37:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-18T22:37:11","slug":"united-airlines-flight-to-laguardia-diverted-to-pittsburgh-after-bomb-scare","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/169668\/","title":{"rendered":"United Airlines flight to LaGuardia diverted to Pittsburgh after bomb scare"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A United Airlines Flight heading to LaGuardia was hastily diverted to Pittsburgh after pilots feared there was a \u201cpotential bomb\u201d on board.<\/p>\n<p>United Flight 2092 was heading to The Empire State from Chicago\u2019s O\u2019Hare Airport early Saturday when the pilots heard a beeping noise and decided to divert the flight, according to audio of the flight crew\u2019s conversation posted to <a href=\"https:\/\/archive.liveatc.net\/kpit\/KPIT2-ZOB-Apr-18-2026-1530Z.mp3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">liveatc.com. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are going to have to start treating this as a potential bomb\u2026 we are going to need to go and start a diversion and get things settled. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The plane landed at Pittsburgh International Airport at 11:45 a.m., WCVB reported.<\/p>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_16-0\"><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/18\/lifestyle\/airline-abruptly-suspends-service-leaving-desperate-travelers-stranded-in-popular-resort-towns\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Boeing 737<\/a>\u2018s 159 passengers and 6 crew members exited the plane safely via slides and no injuries were reported, a United representative told The Post in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>A firetruck and ambulance greeted the airplane as emergency officials helped the passengers and crew exit, and were seen leaving after everyone was successfully escorted. <\/p>\n<p>The Pittsburgh FBI bomb technicians and Special Agents, local police and the Allegheny County bomb squad were on scene investigating, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wcvb.com\/article\/flight-diverted-pittsburgh-possible-security-issue\/71060797\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">WCVB reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><img style=\"aspect-ratio:1.49926794;display:block\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-modal-image=\"39129783\" width=\"885\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/united-airlines-airplane-sits-parked-125630392.jpg\" alt=\"United Airlines\" class=\"wp-image-39129783\"  \/>There were no injuries, a United rep told The Post.  REUTERS<\/p>\n<p>The Allegheny County Police Bomb Squad told the outlet its Explosive Ordinance Disposal team and bomb sniifing dogs conducted a sweep which had \u201cnegative results\u201d for bombs. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur EOD team and K9s conducted a sweep of the aircraft, passengers and luggage with negative results,\u201d the department told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\tStart your day with all you need to know\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p class=\"inline-module__cta\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\tMorning Report delivers the latest news, videos, photos and more.\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\tThanks for signing up!\n\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>The Allegheny Police Department said the incident had been cleared, and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/04\/18\/us-news\/american-airlines-rejects-merger-talks-with-united-airlines\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">United Airlines<\/a> said that passengers took alternative flights to LaGuardia at 4:24 p.m. <\/p>\n<p>The incident comes less than a month after an American Airlines flight heading from New York to Chicago had to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2026\/03\/30\/lifestyle\/american-airlines-flight-diverted-after-passenger-threatens-to-blow-up-the-plane\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">make an emergency landing<\/a> after a disorderly passenger threatened to \u201cblow up the plane.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>AA flight 2819 left JFK airport American Airlines 2819, departed from John F.
