Earlier today in Scranton, city officials, members of the Lackawanna Historical Society, and members of the Daughters of the American Revolution met at the historic Isaac Tripp House to unveil a new plaque honoring the homes first owner over 200 years ago. Speakers went over Tripp’s life story as one of Scranton’s first settlers and later, revealed the new marker, honoring Tripp and his contributions to the area’s history.

“History is significant to people in general,” said Michael Gilmartin, the president of the board of directors of the society for the preservation of the Tripp Family Homestead Museum. “I think people appreciate history locally, nationally, and I think they enjoy it because it gives a sense of continuation, and understanding of modern times from the knowledge that you gained from historic times in the past.”

After the dedication, the assembly met for tea.

The Tripp homestead was owned and changed by Tripp’s descendants and now stands as a memento to Scranton’s revolutionary past.
