416 Project, an athletic complex that will honor the memory of David Duchnik and Shane Rivenburgh.

Two Lakeland graduates were taken far too soon.

Duchnik died after he was hit by a tractor-trailer along Interstate 81 near Clarks Summit in 2016. Rivenburgh was also killed in 2016 after he was hit by a drunk driver.

“I’m not a super emotional person, so being able to remember my brother this way instead of being sad or upset is a lot better, I think,” said Air Rivenburgh, Shane’s sister.

After years of fundraising through big ball games and golf tournaments, the costs of the structure are covered.

Borough officials even offered the land at Scott Township Municipal Park free of charge.

“I’m happy because both the boys played here,” said Scott. “My son played longer here than he played anywhere else, and I just think it’s a special place. I mean, they won a county championship back there, and Michele’s son played here too. They’re a big part of the Lakeland community.”

While there’s still lots of work to be done and fundraising needed to design the inside of the building, the Rivenburgh and Duchnik families are eager to keep pushing ahead, honoring their sons with a project that will serve the greater community.

“It’s like every day you see something out there, remembering the two of them and what they meant to the community,” said Michele.

“I think it’s amazing,” said Scott. “I mean, I think every kid coming up, like Michele mentioned, baseball, but it’s going to be everything: football, lacrosse anything that the kids play, their memory will always be there.”

Construction of the 416 Complex is expected to continue for the next few months. Both families plan to hold fundraisers to help pay for the project this summer.

Work is underway for a project aimed at keeping the memory of two men from Lackawanna County alive.…

[15
178,180,179
post-171187","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-scranton","tag-scranton","tag-scranton-headlines","tag-scranton-news
["GET
