{"id":171288,"date":"2026-04-20T23:36:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-20T23:36:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/171288\/"},"modified":"2026-04-20T23:36:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-20T23:36:09","slug":"celebrating-a-second-chance-at-life","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/171288\/","title":{"rendered":"Celebrating a Second Chance at Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>April 20, 2026<\/p>\n<p>In recognition of Donate Life Month, the ChristianaCare\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/christianacare.org\/us\/en\/care\/specialty-care\/kidney-transplant\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Kidney Transplant Program<\/a> and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/deer-clarinet-h99w.squarespace.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">Gift of Life Donor Program<\/a> hosted a flag raising ceremony on April 14 honoring the generous people who provide hope and save lives through organ and tissue donation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-57289 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Gift-of-Life-Flag-Raising-26-02-800x549.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"549\"  \/>At the flag raising event, ChristianaCare caregivers and members of the Gift of Life team joined transplant recipient Onyi Kenine (in green dress) who received a donor liver as a child.<\/p>\n<p>In 2025, Christiana Hospital facilitated 60 organ donations, resulting in 150 transplanted organs. In addition, there were 122 life-enhancing tissue donors in 2025, improving the lives of countless patients.<\/p>\n<p>For more information or to register as an organ donor, visit\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.donors1.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">donors1.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A generous $25,000 gift from the Gift of Life Donor Program and the Transplant Foundation will help support travel and hotel stays for families and patients who are transplant recipients, patients waiting for a kidney transplant, their family members or our generous living donors.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-57291 size-large\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Gift-of-Life-Flag-Raising-26-13-800x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"533\"  \/>With the transplant team and Gift of Life team is Pat Laurin (front row, center), whose son Tony Rivera was an organ donor. Onyi Kenine stands beside her mother Edith Kenine, who is a nurse at ChristianaCare and calls her daughter\u2019s transplant \u201ca miracle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Nationally, more than 100,000 people are waiting for organ transplants and a second chance at life, and every eight minutes another person is added to the national transplant waiting list, according to Donate Life America.
