BENSALEM TOWNSHIP, PA \u2014 The Women\u2019s Animal Center is hosting its 4th annual Spring Fling Open House this weekend.<\/p>\n
America’s oldest animal shelter said the event will also include a basket raffle. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday at the center on 3839 Richlieu Road.<\/p>\n
The community is invited to learn about the center’s services, including community programs, pet adoptions, an AAHA-accredited veterinary hospital, its kitten fostering program, dog training, and more.<\/p>\n
The Spring Fling Open House \u2014 presented by the Laurel Hill Pet Cemetery \u2014 will feature interactive games and activities with a scavenger hunt, 30+ themed raffle baskets, Story Tails Read to a Shelter Pet, Dog Licensing, and Safety courtesy of the Bucks County Treasurer\u2019s Office, several vendors with pet-themed items, event partner Laurel Hill to share their pet services and event supporter PNC to share their resources. <\/p>\n
The Open House is free to the public.<\/p>\n
Proceeds raised from the basket raffle fundraiser and pet vendor sales will benefit Women\u2019s Animal Center and provide shelter, nutritious meals, and medical care for the shelter pets waiting for their forever homes, and available for adoption.<\/p>\n
This year marks the 157 th Anniversary of the Animal Sheltering and Adoptions movement in America. <\/p>\n
It began with women \u2014 30 of them to be exact, led by Caroline Earle White, who formally joined forces on April 14, 1869, in Philadelphia to establish Women\u2019s Humane Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, now called Women\u2019s Animal Center and America\u2019s First Animal Shelter. <\/p>\n
Women\u2019s Animal Center also pioneered the nation\u2019s first humane education programs and first free veterinary
clinic.<\/p>\n
The founders of Women\u2019s Animal Center, led by Caroline Earle White, used what little voice they had to
speak on behalf of the voiceless. And this lifesaving work continues today.<\/p>\n
