FIFA World Cup<\/a> games at the Linc was announced last year, Chris Denno made sure he would be there.<\/p>\n\u201cIf there\u2019s a World Cup game in Philadelphia on July Fourth \u2014 the 250th anniversary of the U.S. \u2014 it\u2019s going to be a party,\u201d he said, \u201cand whatever I have to do, I want to be there.\u201d<\/p>\n
Last August, he booked two rooms at the Warwick in Rittenhouse Square from July 3 to 5. He planned to visit the city with his girlfriend and his sons. But two weeks ago, he received an email saying his confirmed reservation was canceled due to unforeseen circumstances related to a renovation. <\/p>\n
The hotel owner, Marriott, offered to move him to an airport hotel, but Denno said no.<\/p>\n
\u201cI absolutely do not want to be out at the airport,\u201d he exclaimed. \u201cThe whole point of this is to be in the city. That\u2019s why I booked a place in Rittenhouse. I want to be able to soak in the atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n
Marriott did not respond to KYW Newsradio\u2019s request for comment. KYW Newsradio legal correspondent Amy E. Feldman said the hotel was within its rights.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople almost never read the fine print,\u201d she said. \u201cAnd unfortunately, it does say that they have the right to change the reservation even after they have confirmed it, or to cancel it.\u201d<\/p>\n
After posting about the situation on social media \u2014 and talking with KYW Newsradio and the Philadelphia Inquirer \u2014 Denno said his reservation was reinstated last week.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe hotel finally called me back \u2014 the first time I\u2019ve spoken to anybody from the hotel. And they said that miraculously, they were able to find two rooms in the hotel,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
\u201cBusinesses are very aware that you can start a campaign online, and they don\u2019t want the negative publicity,\u201d added Feldman. <\/p>\n
