ALLENTOWN, Pa. \u2014 April 21 is National Kindergarten Day.<\/p>\n
The day highlights the importance of early childhood education and learning.<\/p>\n
69 News visited one Allentown classroom to see how they’re celebrating the holiday.<\/p>\n
“We like to have fun in Kindergarten,” said Jessica Hughes, a Kindergarten teacher at Jackson Early Childhood Center.<\/p>\n
Each day, Hughes’ classroom is full of excitement from the rainbow of colors to the lessons themselves.<\/p>\n
“We do a lot of play-based learning throughout our curriculum. It’s the foundation for the rest of your learnings,” Hughes explained.<\/p>\n
Student Quentin Young has been keeping his eye on the classroom incubator where he and his classmates are studying the life cycle of baby chicks. It’s a spring tradition in the Allentown School District.<\/p>\n
“Day one it looked like a regular egg with yolk. The start of the second day it starts to form a little bit of its veins. On hatch day it’s going to look like a cute baby chick like this,” Young told us.<\/p>\n
For Hughes, shaping the minds of the next generation comes naturally. She told us she has wanted to be a teacher ever since she was a child and watching her kids grow is rewarding.<\/p>\n
“When they start, they are these very rambunctious lovable little kids and then they turn into students by the end of the year.
