{"id":172371,"date":"2026-04-22T01:11:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T01:11:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/172371\/"},"modified":"2026-04-22T01:11:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T01:11:12","slug":"difficult-decision-lehigh-county-restaurant-to-close-but-owners-plan-to-reopen-at-new-spot-eat-sip-shop","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/172371\/","title":{"rendered":"\u2018Difficult decision\u2019: Lehigh County restaurant to close, but owners plan to reopen at new spot | Eat, Sip, Shop"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>FOUNTAIN HILL, Pa. \u2013 A popular family-run Italian restaurant will end operations this weekend, but its owners plan to \u201cfind the right new home and begin again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tinto Tapas &amp; Pasta, a full-service restaurant offering authentic Italian cuisine, will hold its last day of business on Saturday at 1028 Broadway in Fountain Hill, according to an announcement on the business\u2019 Facebook page.<\/p>\n<p>Husband and wife Giacomo and Victoria Sgroi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfmz.com\/features\/eat-sip-shop\/very-thankful-new-lehigh-county-restaurant-debuts-full-bar-lounge-and-outdoor-deck\/article_5f8b85f6-f8e9-43cd-86a6-cccf0d3c2422.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">opened Tinto in March 2025<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>                        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAQAAAADCAQAAAAe\/WZNAAAAEElEQVR42mM8U88ABowYDABAxQPltt5zqAAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==\" alt=\"tinto far.jpg\" class=\"img-responsive lazyload full blur\" width=\"2065\" height=\"1004\" data- data-\/><\/p>\n<p>             <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/68829637d92fe.image.jpg\" alt=\"\" aria-hidden=\"true\" loading=\"lazy\" height=\"97\" width=\"200\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Tinto Tapas &amp; Pasta operates at 1028 Broadway in Fountain Hill.<\/p>\n<p>                                    Ryan Kneller<\/p>\n<p>Previously, the Sgrois operated the former Nonna Sulina\u2019s Sicilian Kitchen &amp; Grill on Bath Pike in Hanover Township, Northampton County, with Giacomo\u2019s father, Phillip Sgroi, for four years prior to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wfmz.com\/features\/eat-sip-shop\/lehigh-valley-restaurant-owner-recounts-fast-and-mean-fire-promises-better-than-ever-return\/article_8c689ff4-49be-11ef-9ac2-7b4e89a61bfd.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">destructive fire at the Bath Pike property in July 2024<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAfter giving this our absolute all, we\u2019ve made the very difficult decision that this will be our final week at our current location, with our last day of service this Saturday,\u201d the online announcement reads.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis decision did not come lightly. We poured our hearts, time, energy, and every resource we had into trying to make this location work. We are incredibly proud of the food, memories, celebrations, and connections that were made here. Sometimes, despite your best efforts, circumstances make it impossible to continue in the current space.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Sgrois are looking to continue operations at another location and plan to keep the community updated when a new chapter is ready to begin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not goodbye forever,\u201d the announcement continues. \u201cWe fully intend to find the right new home and begin again. When that time comes, we hope you\u2019ll be there with us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Sgrois opened Nonna Sulina\u2019s \u2013 offering \u201ctraditional Sicilian cuisine with an inventive twist\u201d \u2013 in March 2020 during the onset of the pandemic.<\/p>\n<p>Phillip helped Tinto get off the ground in its first few weeks in 2025, but he moved to Italy last spring, Giacomo said.<\/p>\n<p>Originally, Tinto was operating as a BYOB establishment, but in mid-July, it received its liquor license. The restaurant, featuring new light fixtures, wall paint, artwork and other cosmetic touches, offers interior seating for more than 100 guests in multiple dining rooms on the main floor.<\/p>\n<p>Guests can choose from a menu of various Italian tapas, salads, handhelds, entrees and pasta selections, with many options being popular dishes from Nonna Sulina\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>More than a dozen tapas, or small plates designed for sharing, include popular picks such as arancini, coconut shrimp cocktail, Nonna\u2019s burrata, Uncle Phil&#8217;s brasciole, Uncle Paulie&#8217;s meatballs and squash blossom Cinderella (featuring zucchini flowers stuffed with mixed cheeses, battered and fried, and served in Giacomo\u2019s sauce with dried cranberries over spinach).<\/p>\n<p>Customers also can enjoy pasta dishes such as brandy blush, Giacomo\u2019s sauce (with shrimp or chicken), lasagna, Maryland crab ravioli, gnocchi al nonno, capellini valentina and shrimp scampi; and entrees including chicken Marsala, chicken Milanese, chicken parmigiana, eggplant modo mio, Nonna\u2019s ragu, salmon piccata, stuffed meatball, veal chop Marsala and veal chop parmigiana.<\/p>\n<p>                        <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"data:image\/png;base64,iVBORw0KGgoAAAANSUhEUgAAAAQAAAADCAQAAAAe\/WZNAAAAEElEQVR42mM8U88ABowYDABAxQPltt5zqAAAAABJRU5ErkJggg==\" alt=\"tinto dining room 2.jpg\" class=\"img-responsive lazyload full blur\" width=\"2000\" height=\"1037\" data- data-\/><\/p>\n<p>             <img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/68829632e85c6.image.jpg\" alt=\"\" aria-hidden=\"true\" loading=\"lazy\" height=\"104\" width=\"200\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Tinto Tapas &amp; Pasta operates at 1028 Broadway in Fountain Hill.<\/p>\n<p>                                    Ryan Kneller<\/p>\n<p>Other menu highlights include various soups, salads, sides and desserts.<\/p>\n<p>The love of cooking has deep roots in the Sgroi family, and Giacomo and Phillip opened Nonna Sulina\u2019s with a desire to share that longtime passion with the Lehigh Valley.<\/p>\n<p>Giacomo, who also serves as executive chef, grew up in Carini, Sicily, where he spent many days and evenings in the kitchen with his maternal \u201cnonna,\u201d which means grandmother in Italian.<\/p>\n<p>He would also scuba dive for fresh seafood for his father\u2019s coastal restaurant, Trattoria Pescatore.<\/p>\n<p>Coincidentally, Giacomo\u2019s paternal grandmother was also known as Sulina, but his \u201cNonna Sulina\u201d on his mother\u2019s side is who he credits for instilling in him a love for cooking.<\/p>\n<p>She took him to the family garden to pick fresh figs for fig jam, taught him how to sun-dry tomatoes and made sure that he respected the importance of fresh, high-quality ingredients.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe had a lot of knowledge in the kitchen, and she had a lot of influence on me,\u201d Giacomo said.<\/p>\n<p>In its final week, Tinto will operate Tuesday through Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;What we will remember most is you, the customers who supported us, spread the word, celebrated milestones with us, and made Tinto feel alive,&#8221; the online announcement reads.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For that, we are deeply grateful.
