A Georgia man fell out of tree Saturday attempting to get away from Darby police.<\/p>\n
Borough police arrested Robert Littlepage, 18, of Douglasville, after he entered a home then ran out onto a roof and into a tree to avoid police, authorities say.<\/p>\n
Officers were alerted Saturday about 12:40 a.m. to a residence in the 200 block of Highland Avenue for a burglary in progress, Darby Police Chief Joseph Gabe said in an email.<\/p>\n
Police were advised by the homeowner that he were awakened by an unknown male in the living room. The homeowner stated that the male proceeded upstairs where he lost sight of him. The resident left the home to wait for police.<\/p>\n
The victim told police he was asleep on his couch when he heard his space heater get knocked over.<\/p>\n
Darby units and assisting agencies surrounded the house to locate the intruder, who went out a window onto a roof and proceeded into the connecting house utilizing the roof and a window in that home.<\/p>\n
As police descended onto that home, Littlepage then appeared on the roof again, then went back to the first property.<\/p>\n
During the incident, the defendant was utilizing the roofs of both properties trying to evade police, Gabe said. The defendant eventually jumped from the roof into a tree next to the house, where the police gave him several commands to come down.<\/p>\n
Littlepage did not comply and instead attempted to jump back onto the roof, but was unsuccessful and landed on the ground where police took him into custody though he continued to resist.<\/p>\n
Littlepage suffered minor injuries from the fall and was taken to Mercy Fitzgerald Hospital for treatment.<\/p>\n
Gabe said it did not appear Littlepage removed any items from either residence.<\/p>\n
He was arraigned before District Judge Michael Burns who set bail at 10 percent of $150,000, which he could not post. Littlepage was taken to the George W. Hill Correctional Facility, Delaware County prison, to await a scheduled preliminary hearing May 2 in front of District Judge Cullen Grimes.<\/p>\n
\u201cThanks to the alertness and swift action of my officers, a burglary in progress was quickly brought under control and a suspect taken into custody,\u201d Gabe said. \u201cTheir professionalism and commitment to protecting the community made all the difference in resolving this situation safely.\u201d<\/p>\n
