Lackawanna County<\/p>\n
On June 8, a historian will give a talk on local suffragette Kate Chapman and her role in bringing the Justice Bell to Scranton. The Justice Bell, a replica of the Liberty Bell, traveled the state in 1915 as part of the fight for votes for women. The event will be at the Scranton Area Foundation at the Century Club.<\/p>\n
The musical \u201c1776\u201d was a hit on Broadway and in the movies in the 1970s. It will be produced by the combined community theater companies of Diva Theater and Actors Circle at West Scranton Intermediate School the weekends of June 19 and 26.<\/p>\n
Brunch with a well-known Thomas Jefferson reenactor is July 12 and will most likely be held at POSH at the Scranton Club. Tickets will go on sale in late May on the Lackawanna Historical Society website.<\/p>\n
The Society is using America250 to bolster exposure to its entire collection.<\/p>\n
In June, big banners will go up in four senior centers and six county libraries with pictures and text showcasing Lackawanna Historical Society artifacts that fit in with the location. For example, the Lackawanna Children\u2019s Library banner will be about amusement parks.<\/p>\n
The bikes from the society\u2019s collection will go on display at the Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority headquarters on Railroad Avenue in Scranton. The location was chosen to highlight the LHV bike share program. The exhibit should be ready by Independence Day.<\/p>\n
The society is looking back to the bicentennial and other anniversaries with a display at the Catlin House, a historic home museum in Scranton. Displays showcase memorabilia from national and local commemorations of 1976. One holds a souvenir booklet for the Freedom Train, a rolling museum that toured the country and drew big crowds in Scranton. There is memorabilia from the anniversaries of municipalities in the county.<\/p>\n
Schuylkill County<\/p>\n
There will be fireworks in Pottsville on June 25 and what organizers promise will be a \u201conce-in-a-lifetime\u201d parade June 27. The parade will be followed by an event at the Alvernia University Pottsville CollegeTown campus.<\/p>\n
The Schuylkill County Historical Society will host historians for two lectures on the region\u2019s World War II heroes. An April 30 event will focus on 20 highly decorated, but lesser known service members. The story of Gustav \u201cFred\u201d Anchorstar will be told May 21.
