SCRANTON, LACKAWANNA COUNTY (WBRE\/WYOU) \u2014 Lackawanna County is marking Earth Day with hands-on efforts across Scranton. On Wednesday, the county hosted an information fair inside the government center, while volunteers cleaned up around the courthouse, picking up trash and cigarette butts.<\/p>\n

The county says it\u2019s all about raising awareness and encouraging small actions that make a big difference.<\/p>\n

\u201cA lot of the time always get people saying to us they didn\u2019t know that our office existed until we come out, and we\u2019re like, \u2018Hey, we\u2019re the environmental office,’\u201d Education Specialist Markieann Muncie explained.<\/p>\n

The effort continues this weekend with a county Earth Day event Saturday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at McDade Park.<\/p>\n
