Sanghamitra Das, assistant professor in the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences\u2019 Department of Anthropology, won the 2026 Bluestone Rising Scholar Prize from CASTE: A Global Journal on Social Exclusion.<\/p>\n
For winning the prestigious international prize, Das\u2019 entry \u2014 \u201cFrom the Tea Gardens to the Clinic: Adibaxi Health in Assan and Caste and Indigeneity in Indian Modernity\u201d \u2014 will receive publication in the sponsoring journal. Das will also recieve a trip to an award ceremony at Boston\u2019s Brandeis University, the publisher of CASTE.<\/p>\n
Das is a sociocultural anthropologist specializing in medical anthropology; her research investigates the intersections of medicine, genetics, technology and society. Her research has been supported by the Wenner-Gren Foundation and the Social Science Research Council. Das is currently completing her first book-length manuscript, which explores the politics of sickle cell management in India, a genetic blood disorder.
