PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — This week on FYI Philly, we have a pop-up garden party, enjoy comfort food from a Michelin-star chef, round up some spots to watch the Broad Street Run, visit the new, temporary home for the Rocky statue, take a road trip to the world’s largest general store and so much more.<\/p>\n
It’s the 12th season for the PHS Pop Up Garden on South Street. The gorgeous garden setting is an oasis in the city with comfort food, craft brews and frozen cocktails on the menu.<\/p>\n
The garden setting is lush with flowers, pots and vines blooming throughout the season to bring a changing landscape to the space. PHS provides monthly programming with plant swaps and potting parties scheduled throughout the summer.<\/p>\n
The menu includes seasonal dishes and comfort food favorites created by the Royal Restaurant Group. From classic Chicken tenders with a secret sauce to a tofu ricotta dip with a balsamic drizzle, the dishes are meant to share.<\/p>\n
The community space is dog friendly with little seating nooks throughout the eatery and covered sections to avoid any weather-related issues. There is a second location in Manayunk with similar offerings.<\/p>\n
PHS Pop Up South Street<\/a> | Facebook <\/a>| Instagram<\/a> Pine Street Grill is a new family-friendly spot from culinary couple Amanda Shulman and Alex Kemp, located across the street from Fitler Square Park.<\/p>\n While the couple has earned James Beard recognition in recent years, they can now add a coveted Michelin star for Her Place Supper Club, and a notable nod as a Michelin Recommended Restaurant for My Loup.<\/p>\n The shift from fine dining to family-friendly makes sense, as the co-owners are new parents.<\/p>\n Pine Street offers thoughtfully prepared classics from matzo ball soup and spinach artichoke dip, to salads, a burger, and rotisserie chicken. This is also their first establishment to offer a kid’s menu, and a weekend brunch.<\/p>\n Pine Street Grill<\/a> | Instagram<\/a> LynUp Cafe and Lounge in Torresdale is a whole vibe for music, West African food, and more.<\/p>\n Owner Prince Gbee is from Liberia, where he was a DJ for 15 years. He says he always wanted to own a spot that would combine his passions of food and music.<\/p>\n Authentic cuisine is on order all day and night, some nights until the wee hours. Prince can be found mingling with guests – who he says become like family – and behind the turntables, spinning everything from Afro-beats to jazz.<\/p>\n LynUp Cafe & Lounge | Instagram<\/a> It is the 47th year for the Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run. The 10 miler runs through the heart of center city and we rounded up some top spots to watch the runners this year.<\/p>\n Our list is a mixture of North and South Broad Street.<\/p>\n We have some spots where you can grab a bite to eat or a sweet treat. There are green spaces and parklike settings. Or, if you are looking for some entertainment, we even have a marching band on our list.<\/p>\n Of course, the start line by Central High School is a great place to start the day and the finish line at the Navy Yard includes all the post-run festivities.<\/p>\n If you are not able to make it to the city on race day you can watch it all right here on 6abc Sunday, May 3. He started the business in 2005, transitioning from cabinet making to drum building.<\/p>\n He taught himself the craft and considers drum-making an art form.<\/p>\n Carr sells some of his work in stores, but most orders come through the company’s website. The 59-year-old Pennsylvania native said the local connection matters to him.<\/p>\n Bucks County Drum Co.<\/a> | Facebook<\/a> | Instagram <\/a><\/p>\n “Rising Up — Rocky and The Making of Monuments” is a new exhibit at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.<\/p>\n Philadelphia native, scholar Paul Farber, is the guest curator who has made his life’s work the study of monuments. He hosts a podcast called The Statue, and is the Director and Co-Founder of The Monument Lab, a Philadelphia-based nonprofit public art and history studio that reimagines monuments as places of learning, healing and belonging.<\/p>\n The exhibition brings the Rocky statue – and artifacts surrounding it’s making – inside the museum for the first time, and features over 150 works by over 50 artists spanning over 2,000 years.<\/p>\n ‘Rising Up’ runs through August 2nd.<\/p>\n Philadelphia Museum of Art<\/a> | Instagram<\/a> | Facebook<\/a><\/p>\n Rising Up: Rocky and The Making of Monuments<\/a> Country Junction is known as the world’s largest general store. The Pocono shop carries everything and anything you can think of and offers games, entertainment and a petting zoo.<\/p>\n Country Junction is a family business that has grown from an insulation installation business into a store that sells almost anything.<\/p>\n It grew because customers asked founders Jim and Jan Everett to add something new. Now, more than 40 years later they have a pet store, pizza restaurant, Ace Hardware and just about anything you can think of under one roof.<\/p>\n They also offer seasonal events like a summer carnival and fall festival.<\/p>\n Country Junction<\/a> | Facebook <\/a>| Instagram<\/a> “Radical Americana” is a radical idea, with 45 artists participating in exhibitions across 22 sites in the Philadelphia area.<\/p>\n There’s a map for all 25 exhibitions on view now and upcoming.<\/p>\n The project uplifts different artists’ perspectives. Each artist used their unique talents and skills to create work.<\/p>\n A variety of cultural institutions are hosting, like the Museum for Art in Wood, with some artists using research from those very sites to make new work.<\/p>\n The Clay Studio has potter Roberto Lugo’s “American Crib: What’s Happening?” on view.<\/p>\n Visitors are invited to hang out in the welcoming atmosphere Lugo created. Lugo also ties his Puerto Rican heritage into his work, much of which reimagines historical pieces.<\/p>\n “Radical Americana” exhibitions are on view across the city through July 5, with some closing later.
