Five Rochester pitchers combined on a two-hit shutout Wednesday night as the Red Wings blanked the Scranton\/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, 2-0, in the second game of their series at PNC Field in Moosic.<\/p>\n
New York Yankees shortstop continued his rehab assignment with the RailRiders and went 0 for 3. Batting leadoff, Volpe grounded out to second in the bottom of the first inning. He flew out to left field leading off the bottom of the fourth, then struck out in the bottom of the sixth. He exited the game after seven innings.<\/p>\n
The rest of the RailRiders (11-11) didn\u2019t have much offensive success, managing only a one-out single in the fourth by Jasson Dominguez and a two-out single in the fifth by Oswaldo Cabrera.<\/p>\n
Chandler Champlain started for Rochester and gave up the two hits in 4.2 innings with one walk and five strikeouts. Jackson Rutledge worked 1.1 scoreless innings with one walk and two strikeouts. Paxton Schultz and Orlando Ribalta each pitched one perfect inning with one strikeout. Eddy Yean threw a scoreless ninth, hitting one batter and striking out one.<\/p>\n
Elmer Rodriguez (1-2), the Yankees\u2019 No. 3 prospect, started and was the hard-luck loser. He allowed one run and three hits in 5.2 innings with one walk and a season-high seven strikeouts.<\/p>\n
Rochester scored the only run it would need in the top of the fourth. Yohandy Morales led off with a double, took third on a groundout by Abimelec Ortiz and scored on a single past the drawn-in infield by Andres Chaparro.<\/p>\n
Andrew Pinckney provided the Red Wings with an insurance run in the top of the seventh when he led off with a home run to center field off Kervin Castro.<\/p>\n
On Thursday at 6:35 p.m., the series continues at PNC Field.
