SHILLINGTON, Pa. – From Shillington to the national stage, Nick Singleton is waiting to hear his name called at the NFL Draft this week.<\/p>\n
But long before the spotlight, there were signs of what was to come.<\/p>\n
\u201cHim as an 8, 9-year-old doing little workouts\u2026 I remember telling him, like, \u2018dude, you can relax,\u2019\u201d said his father, Timmy Singleton. \u201cAnd he was like, \u2018no, no, I\u2019m going to finish the reps.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n
At Governor Mifflin High School, Singleton quickly became more than a hometown standout.<\/p>\n
He became one of the most talked-about players in the state; a star with both production and presence.<\/p>\n
For his family, the memories go beyond the highlight reels.<\/p>\n
\u201cThere was a game that he got his helmet chipped off,\u201d his mother, Nicole, recalled with a laugh, pointing to keepsakes that now serve as reminders of how far he\u2019s come.<\/p>\n
That relentless drive carried Singleton to Penn State, where expectations were high, and he still exceeded those.<\/p>\n
In four seasons in Happy Valley, Singleton leaves as Penn State\u2019s all-time leader in total touchdowns and all-purpose yards, cementing his place among the program\u2019s greats.<\/p>\n
His journey wasn\u2019t without challenges, including injury setbacks.<\/p>\n
But through it all, his parents say his mindset never wavered.<\/p>\n
\u201cI didn\u2019t see him doubt himself\u2026 he just stayed positive,\u201d Timmy said.<\/p>\n
As NFL teams evaluate the player, his parents say the person behind the pads is just as impressive.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe\u2019s very determined, hardworking\u2026 a team player,\u201d Nicole said.<\/p>\n
\u201cHe tries to do what the coach is asking him to do,\u201d Timmy added. \u201cNo matter what happens, it\u2019s a blessing.\u201d<\/p>\n
Now, the next chapter will be unveiled this weekend.<\/p>\n
