A neighborhood still grieving the loss of three young children in a late\u2011March house fire will gather this weekend for a community prayer vigil<\/a> organized by St. John the Baptist Church.<\/p>\n

The fire<\/a>, which broke out on East 26th Street back in March, claimed the lives of 5\u2011year\u2011old Tobias, 3\u2011year\u2011old Da\u2019Liyla, and 5\u2011month\u2011old Amirah. In the weeks since, residents, loved ones, and first responders have continued to process the tragedy.<\/p>\n

The church is inviting the public to join a brief prayer service this Sunday at 4:30 p.m. at the site of the fire. Organizers say the goal is to create space for collective mourning and healing.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had a significant tragedy here in the neighborhood\u2026 and we felt we should do something from a spiritual, prayerful perspective,\u201d said Rev. James Piszker. \u201cIt speaks to who we are\u2026 and connects us to our neighborhood.\u201d<\/p>\n

The vigil will also focus on supporting first responders, many of whom were deeply affected by what they witnessed that day.<\/p>\n

\u201cThey were quite traumatized about what they saw\u2026 what they experienced,\u201d Piszker said. \u201cThey\u2019re human beings\u2026 and they need vehicles for expressing their feelings\u2026 and hopefully this will assist in that.\u201d<\/p>\n
