{"id":174720,"date":"2026-04-24T09:34:06","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T09:34:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/174720\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T09:34:06","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T09:34:06","slug":"chester-county-town-tours-and-village-walks-returns-with-a-twist","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/174720\/","title":{"rendered":"Chester County Town Tours and Village Walks returns with a twist"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>                                                                                                                                                                                                                        Showcasing the \u2018vast tapestry of what makes Chester County so unique\u2019<\/p>\n<p>Chester County\u2019s 13 tours stretch across the entirety of Pennsylvania\u2019s seventh-largest county, taking participants through historical hotspots that were important to the story of the county and the founding of the United States.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBecause Chester County is one of the three original counties plotted by our colonial founder, William Penn, we\u2019ve got history going all the way back not only to the 1680s, but even further back than that if you look at Native Americans, who called this home for thousands of years,\u201d Blackburn said. \u201cSo regardless of the fact that it\u2019s America 250, with a strong focus on what happened on July 4, 1776, we\u2019re using this opportunity to connect to broad themes across history, both long past and recent past to try and connect our residents and all those that are interested to the vast tapestry of what makes Chester County so unique and special.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>Tom Walsh, chair of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.west-chester.com\/510\/Historical-Commission\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">West Chester Borough Historical Commission<\/a>, is a retired teacher. Walsh has been a part of the tour program for years. He said there\u2019s a little bit of something for everyone.\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou pick up local tidbits of history, architecture, events and they may have, in some cases, county, state, national significance \u2014 so you get a full range of things as you visit either West Chester and even some of the other communities throughout the summer for the Chester County program that is put on each year,\u201d Walsh said.\n  <\/p>\n<p>In addition to the brief expeditions, Chester County will also hold three lectures in May, July and October.\n<\/p>\n<p>On May 7, the Schuylkill River Heritage Center in Phoenixville, will host a <a href=\"https:\/\/tockify.com\/chescoplanning\/detail\/317\/1778189400000?tags=Town-Tours\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">discussion on Pennsylvania ironworkers<\/a> and the role furnaces played in supplying George Washington\u2019s troops with ammunition and weaponry during the Revolutionary War.\n<\/p>\n<p>The Chester County Library &amp; District Center will feature American historian <a href=\"https:\/\/tockify.com\/chescoplanning\/detail\/323\/1784842200000?tags=Town-Tours\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Dr. Emily Sneff on July 23<\/a>, as she discusses her book, \u201cWhen the Declaration of Independence Was News.\u201d The lecture will take place in the library\u2019s Struble Room.\n<\/p>\n<p>The featured lectures and summer series will <a href=\"https:\/\/tockify.com\/chescoplanning\/detail\/329\/1792099800000?tags=Town-Tours\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">conclude on Oct. 15<\/a>, at Historic Yellow Springs, for a discussion on the impact of trade blockades on early American medicine.\n<\/p>\n<p>All lecture events, like walking tours, are free.\n        <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Showcasing the \u2018vast tapestry of what makes Chester County so unique\u2019 Chester County\u2019s 13 tours stretch across the&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":174721,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[8],"tags":[1557,69,4001,71,70,78338],"class_list":{"0":"post-174720","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-philadelphia","8":"tag-chester-county","9":"tag-philadelphia","10":"tag-philadelphia-250","11":"tag-philadelphia-headlines","12":"tag-philadelphia-news","13":"tag-walking-tour"},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/174720","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/2"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=174720"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/174720\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/174721"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=174720"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=174720"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=174720"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
