{"id":174779,"date":"2026-04-24T11:25:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T11:25:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/174779\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T11:25:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T11:25:11","slug":"what-will-penndot-work-on-in-the-lehigh-valley-in-2026","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/174779\/","title":{"rendered":"What will PennDOT work on in the Lehigh Valley in 2026?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PennDOT will be busy in the Lehigh Valley  during the 2026 construction season, working on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcall.com\/2024\/08\/21\/hill-to-hill-bridge-construction-is-coming-up-heres-what-to-expect\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the Hill to Hill Bridge<\/a>, Interstate 78, Route 33 and Route 309, among others.<\/p>\n<p>PennDOT District 5, which includes the Valley, will improve more than 197 miles of road and 77 bridges, the agency announced Thursday. The total investment in the six-county area is more than $1.2 billion.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur district continues to address critical infrastructure needs of this growing region,\u201d PennDOT Engineering District 5 Executive Chris Kufro said. \u201cThese projects will not only upkeep the roads and bridges but also keep them safe for the many drivers who use them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some of more notable projects that will begin or continue this year include:<\/p>\n<p>In multiple counties<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Rehabilitating the Route 378 Hill to Hill Bridge over Norfolk Southern Railroad, city streets, Delaware &amp; Lehigh Trail, and the Lehigh River in Bethlehem, about $74 million. The project will include adding a new parallel span along the southern half of the bridge for northbound traffic to help alleviate traffic congestion.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Replacing the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcall.com\/2025\/12\/08\/the-new-cementon-bridge-is-open-for-traffic-after-two-year-reconstruction\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Route 329 Cementon Bridge<\/a> over the Lehigh River in Whitehall Township and Northampton, $21.7 million.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Motorists use the new Cementon Bridge over the Lehigh River between Northampton and Whitehall Township on Monday, Dec. 8, 2025. (April Gamiz\/The Morning Call)<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Improving I-78, including patching, milling, paving, safety barrier and drainage improvements in Allentown and Salisbury and Upper Saucon townships, $37.8 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Intersection and road improvements on Race Street in Catasauqua, $10.2 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Intersection and road improvements on Route 145 in Allentown, $7.36 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Traffic signal improvements on Route 29 in Salisbury Township, $3.8 million.<\/p>\n<p>Northampton County<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Resurfacing Route 248 from 25th Street to Route 611 in Easton, Wilson and Palmer Township, about $4 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Realigning the Freemansburg Avenue intersection with Farmersville Road in Bethlehem Township, about $5 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Resurfacing Route 611 from Route 512 to the Monroe County line in Portland and Upper Mount Bethel Township, $2.9 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Replacing the Route 33 north and south bridges over Bushkill Creek in Palmer Township and Stockertown, $23.2 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Route 248 realignment in Bath, $5.42 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Replacing the Hecktown Road bridge over Route 22 in Bethlehem Township, $4.7 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Replacing the Farmersville Road bridge over Route 22 in Bethlehem Township, $4.34 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Route 611 Delaware Canal retaining wall replacement in Williams Township, $4.1 million.<\/p>\n<p>Other notable area projects<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Route 222 widening from Schaeffer Road to the Kutztown Bypass in Richmond, Maidencreek and Maxatawny townships, Berks County, about $83 million.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Route 222 at Long Lane roundabout installation in Maxatawny Township, Berks County, $9 million.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" lazyautosizes lazyload\" alt=\"Construction has begun on the roundabout at Route 222 and Long Lane in Maxatawny Township.
