Rhen, Jr.

 OBITUARY

George W. Rhen, Jr., 84, of Sinking Spring, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at Reading Hospital. He was the devoted husband of Ida M. (Fry) Rhen, with whom he would have shared 61 years of marriage on July 31.

Born in Cleona, he was the son of the late George W. Rhen, Sr., and Susan (Bensing) Rhen. The older brother of the late Gloria (Rhen) Hansel and Sharon (Rhen) Mason, George spent most of his life working as a Professional Engineer, a career that reflected his natural curiosity and talent for building and fixing things. Even after retirement, he could often be found in his garage, happily tinkering and bringing new life to whatever project was in front of him.

George will be remembered for his deep love of boating, bike riding, and, most of all, his wonderful sense of humor. He had a special gift for making others laugh and brought joy to those around him in both big and small ways.

He was a proud graduate of Annville High School, Class of 1959, and always looked forward to reconnecting with his classmates over the years. George was also a member of the Power Squadron, where he combined his passion for boating with camaraderie and service.

A man of strong faith and community spirit, George was an active member of St. John’s (Hain’s) UCC. He served his church faithfully as both a past president of the consistory and a deacon, roles he carried out with dedication and care.

George retired from Alcon, where he was respected for his work and commitment.

In addition to his loving wife, Ida, he is survived by his daughter, Tina K., wife of Charles E. Hatalsky, and his cherished grandchildren, Alex and Carly Hatalsky. Being a grandfather was one of George’s greatest joys. He was deeply involved in his grandchildren’s lives, always present, supportive, and ready to lend a helping hand. He took great pride in caring for them, spending time with them, and watching them grow, and nothing made him happier than being their grandfather.

He was preceded in death by his son, Gregory G. Rhen

Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Thursday, May 7th, at St. John’s (Hain’s) UCC, 591 N. Church Road, Wernersville. A viewing will be held from 10-11:00 AM, Thursday, at the church. Burial will be in Hain’s Church Cemetery. Lamm & Witman Funeral Home, 243 W. Penn Ave., Wernersville, is handling arrangements.
