A suspect is in custody following a shooting in Philadelphia’s University City neighborhood that left one man injured, police said. <\/p>\n
According to the Philadelphia Police Department, around 10:16 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, 2026 officers, along with University of Pennsylvania Police, responded to 40th and Chestnut Streets after receiving reports about a person with a gun. <\/p>\n
When officers got to the scene, police said they found a 24-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to his lower back. He was immediately taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and placed in stable condition. <\/p>\n
Police said an investigation revealed that the victim and two others had been walking near the intersection when they saw a man shouting to himself. As the individual approached, he reportedly began shooting at the group without provocation, striking the victim once before fleeing the scene on foot.<\/p>\n
Shortly after, police said University of Pennsylvania Police stopped a 43-year-old man who was identified by witnesses as the shooter.<\/p>\n
The suspect was taken into cutody and transported to a nearby hospital for treatment, police said. <\/p>\n
