{"id":176964,"date":"2026-04-27T02:33:12","date_gmt":"2026-04-27T02:33:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/176964\/"},"modified":"2026-04-27T02:33:12","modified_gmt":"2026-04-27T02:33:12","slug":"eqt-poised-to-capture-more-data-center-power-demand-in-its-backyard-wpxi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/176964\/","title":{"rendered":"EQT poised to capture more data center power demand in its backyard \u2013 WPXI"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/pittsburgh\/organization\/eqt\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">EQT Corp.<\/a> already scored potentially two of the biggest gas-supply contracts in the burgeoning market for data centers in Pennsylvania, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/2025\/11\/25\/homer-city-redevelopment-natural-gas-plant.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">for the Homer City Energy Campus<\/a> and the redevelopment of the former Bruce Mansfield coal-fired power plant in Shippingport. But the company thinks the market is only scratching the surface.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">Data center-related demand for natural gas could be much higher than that, given some of the most recent announcements of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bizjournals.com\/pittsburgh\/news\/2026\/03\/23\/next-era-location-power-plant-pennsylvania.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">NextEra\u2019s plans for 10-gigawatts worth of natural gas-fired power plants south of Pittsburgh<\/a>; a 9.2-gigawatt natural gas power plant that will be built by SB Energy in Piketon, Ohio; and last year\u2019s strategy announced by West Virginia to dramatically increase the state\u2019s electricity making from 16 gigawatts to 50 gigawatts by 2050.<\/p>\n<p class=\"default__StyledText-sc-tl066j-0 gJuxXh body-paragraph\">\u201cThese are big plans that are being put out in this area, so we\u2019re really excited about how Appalachia is positioned to be the home for a lot of these projects,\u201d said EQT CEO Toby Z. Rice during Wednesday\u2019s first-quarter earnings conference call. \u201cThen for us, what that translates to EQT specifically, we\u2019ve got a robust pipeline of these opportunities that are currently being negotiated.
