SHILLINGTON, Pa. – This weekend in Berks County, every kick, every strike, and every board broken will help a family in need.<\/p>\n
The students and instructors at Elite Leadership Martial Arts Academy in Cumru Township will host a Board Break-A-Thon on Sunday to benefit a local nonprofit.<\/p>\n
They have raised more than $2,500, so far, and hope to raise $5,000 for Growing Wildflowers- an organization that helps families with children who have complex medical needs.<\/p>\n
And here’s why they chose this particular nonprofit.<\/p>\n
“They were started by my family,” said Kayl DeLong, student and instructor at the academy. “We had a family member – I had a cousin, Thea, which she did unfortunately pass in November of 2022- but she was a very- she had some complex medical needs, and she was a very nice little girl\u2026They have given out over 60-plus sponsors, and they just help people in general.”<\/p>\n
You can help make a difference by making a pledge. Then, these karate students will battle it out to see how many boards they can break in one minute.<\/p>\n
All money raised will go to Growing Wildflowers so it can help more families like Thea’s.<\/p>\n
