What’s old is new again as Philly officials are set to bring a new transportation center to the site of a shuttered bus terminal in Center City. <\/p>\n

After bouncing around from several locations<\/a> after the city’s Center City bus terminal was shuttered in the hopes of bringing a new Sixers stadium to Philly’s Market East community<\/a>, on Tuesday, city officials will cut the ribbon on a new transportation center. <\/p>\n

On Tuesday, officials from Philadelphia — including Mayor Cherelle Parker — were expected to cut the ribbon for the Philadelphia Parking Authority’s new Transportation Center, which is located at the same location of a Greyhound Bus Terminal that had served the city until it was shuttered to help facilitate the proposed creation of a new Sixers arena in that area.<\/p>\n

But, that arena plan evaporated, even as new locations were proposed for a bus terminal — in places where some residents opposed the idea<\/a>.<\/p>\n

And now, travelers looking to rely on buses to commute throughout the region will soon have a new place to grab their rides — on the 1000 block of Filbert Street, right were the Greyhound Bus Terminal used to be. <\/p>\n

In a statement on the new terminal, organizers said the new structure will help “enhance Philadelphia’s mobility and accessibility,” as it represents a “significant investment” in the city’s transportation infrastructure. <\/p>\n

The new structure, organizers said, features 44,000 square feet of renovated bays for buses, including 11 bays with full ADA accessability. <\/p>\n

It will also feature over 13,000 square feet of interior space — with seating for 189 passengers in the terminal — with updated amenities for the public. <\/p>\n

The building has renovated, clean and modern restrooms, organizers said, along with interior and exterior security cameras in place all around the property.<\/p>\n

Though the ribbon cutting will be held on Tuesday, the terminal’s first day of operation will be on Friday, May 1, at 12 a.m. <\/p>\n
