AVOCA BOROUGH, LUZERNE CO. (WOLF) \u2014 Several rare World War II-era aircraft will be making a stop in northeastern Pennsylvania this summer as part of a national aviation tour.<\/p>\n
According to event organizers, the AirPower History Tour will bring a collection of historic military planes to the Wilkes-Barre\/Scranton International Airport from June 17 through June 21.<\/p>\n
Among the featured aircraft are the B-29 Superfortress known as \u201cFIFI\u201d and the B-24 Liberator \u201cDiamond Lil,\u201d both considered among the few remaining airworthy bombers from World War II.<\/p>\n
Additional planes scheduled to appear include a P-51D Mustang, a T-6 Texan, a PT-13 Stearman, and an RC-45J aircraft.<\/p>\n
Organizers say the event will give the public a chance to view the aircraft up close, tour cockpits, and even book flights on select planes. The B-29 and B-24 are scheduled to offer rides on June 20 and 21, while other aircraft will be available for rides throughout the week.<\/p>\n
The planes are expected to arrive starting June 16, with the P-51D Mustang arriving later in the week.<\/p>\n
The event will take place at the airport\u2019s North Cargo Ramp, with parking available off-site and shuttle service provided. Admission to the aircraft viewing area will cost $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 11 to 17, and will be free for younger children.<\/p>\n
Officials say the traveling exhibit is designed to give visitors a firsthand look at historic aircraft while sharing the stories of military aviation from World War II.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"AVOCA BOROUGH, LUZERNE CO.
