ERIE \u2014 Erie County Executive Christina Vogel announced today that the Erie County Courthouse will be illuminated in red during the \u201cLight the Night for Fallen Firefighters\u201d campaign, held April 26 through May 3, 2026, in honor of fallen firefighters and their families.<\/p>\n
The illumination is part of a nationwide tribute coordinated by the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation, which encourages communities across the country to light homes, businesses, fire stations, and public buildings in red during National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend.<\/p>\n
The Memorial Weekend, observed May 1 through May 3, 2026, honors firefighters who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty and recognizes the families they leave behind.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe red lighting of the Erie County Courthouse is a visible symbol of our community\u2019s gratitude, respect, and remembrance,\u201d said County Executive Christina Vogel. \u201cIt is a simple but powerful way to ensure that the sacrifices of our fallen firefighters are never forgotten.\u201d<\/p>\n
The \u201cLight the Night for Fallen Firefighters\u201d campaign began in 2017 as part of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation\u2019s 25th anniversary and has grown into a nationwide movement of remembrance and unity.<\/p>\n
Erie County is encouraging residents, businesses, fire departments, and community organizations to participate by lighting their homes and buildings in red throughout the week of April 26 through May 3, 2026.<\/p>\n
