Sunday, May 3, the City of Brotherly Love will welcome 40,000 runners for the 47th Annual Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run<\/a>,<\/a>\u00a0the nation\u2019s largest 10-mile race.<\/p>\n Organizers said the run will begin at\u00a07 a.m.,\u00a0with the\u00a0wheelchair division starting\u00a0five minutes earlier at\u00a06:55 a.m.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n The race will kick off from\u00a0Central High School Athletic Field on Broad Street,\u00a0between\u00a0Fisher\u00a0and\u00a0Somerville Avenues, marking the start of\u00a0a\u00a010-mile route\u00a0that continues through the heart of the city and finishes\u00a0at\u00a0the Navy Yard.\u00a0<\/p>\n Whether you’re running, watching from the sidelines, or just trying to avoid the whole event altogether, here is your guide to road closures, parking restrictions, and SEPTA changes ahead of the big day: <\/p>\n What roads will be closed?<\/p>\n Organizers said phased road closures for the race will begin at 2 a.m. on Sunday. No parking will be permitted on Broad Street on Sunday, May 3, from Olney Avenue to the Navy Yard from 2:00 a.m. until 12 p.m.<\/p>\n The race start area on Broad Street from Olney Avenue to Windrim Avenue will close to traffic at 4 a.m. and Broad Street from Windrim Avenue to Erie Avenue will close at 6:30 a.m. The remainder of the course along Broad Street will close to traffic at 7:15 a.m.<\/p>\n Roads will reopen as they are cleared and serviced, organizers shared. The City expects the course to reopen by noon. <\/p>\n The Philadelphia Police Department will be assigned to the detours around the run route to assist motorists. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes, avoid areas along the race course, allow for extra driving time, and proceed with caution during the race.<\/p>\n Pedestrians can expect delays when\u00a0crossing\u00a0roads or streets along the racecourse. Police will allow pedestrian traffic through intersections when possible, depending on the flow of race participants. <\/p>\n Organizers said pedestrians are asked for their cooperation since crossing in front of a runner can cause them to fall and get hurt.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n I-95 South detour: <\/p>\n The\u00a0Walt Whitman Bridge\/Packer Avenue\u00a0exit\u00a0on I-95 South is\u00a0closed\u00a0for construction.\u00a0During the race,\u00a0all\u00a0Independence Blue Cross Broad Street Run traffic should exit at the\u00a0Columbus Boulevard \/Washington\u00a0Avenue\u00a0exit.\u00a0Turn\u00a0right\u00a0on Columbus Boulevard\u00a0and follow\u00a0it\u00a0all the way until it turns into\u00a0Pattison Avenue.\u00a0<\/p>\n Will there be parking restrictions?<\/p>\n Prior to Sunday, \u201cNo Parking\u201d signs will be posted at the starting area, along the race course, and in the center median of Broad Street. City of Philadelphia \u201cNo Parking\u201d regulations will be strictly enforced. All vehicles on the race route will be relocated, beginning on Saturday evening, May 2.<\/p>\n There is no parking available in the start area. Participants can park their cars for free in the Sports Complex parking lots (Broad Street and Pattison Avenue) and take the\u00a0SEPTA Broad Street Line\u00a0to the start area.<\/p>\n
