After a nearly 25-year run in Dickson City, Red Lobster ceased operations in the borough last week.<\/p>\n

The Red Lobster location, 1502 Scranton Carbondale Hwy., closed as of April 20, according to a note on the restaurant\u2019s door.<\/p>\n

\u201cAs part of our normal course of business, we continuously monitor restaurant performance and may from time to time choose to close or relocate restaurants,\u201d a Red Lobster spokesperson said in an email. \u201cOur focus remains on delivering a Red Carpet Experience to our guests across our current restaurants.\u201d<\/p>\n

Red Lobster still operates two locations in Northeast Pennsylvania: 10 East End Center in Wilkes-Barre Twp. and 3588 Route 611 in Bartonsville.<\/p>\n

The Dickson City location opened in July 2001, according to Times-Tribune archives.<\/p>\n

Dickson City Mayor Robert MacCallum was disappointed by the closure of the long-tenured restaurant in the borough.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s been there a couple decades and they offered something a little bit different,\u201d he said. \u201cI remember going there \u2026 I just went there recently with my dad. Even before this downturn with the economy, I know there were some restaurants having trouble. There were a few that were hanging on when you read about it nationally. It might have been a matter of time, there is a lot of competition up there.\u201d<\/p>\n

MacCallum hopes another business expresses interest in the property, rather than it sitting empty for a while.<\/p>\n

\u201cI haven\u2019t heard of anything lately, but we\u2019ll have our ears open,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

MacCallum also recognized the closure\u2019s impact on the local employees.<\/p>\n
