{"id":179548,"date":"2026-04-29T19:54:23","date_gmt":"2026-04-29T19:54:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/179548\/"},"modified":"2026-04-29T19:54:23","modified_gmt":"2026-04-29T19:54:23","slug":"st-demetrios-in-upper-darby-welcomes-the-evzones-before-philadelphia-parade","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/179548\/","title":{"rendered":"St. Demetrios in Upper Darby Welcomes the Evzones Before Philadelphia Parade"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>        <a href=\"https:\/\/www.greeknewsusa.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Upper-Darby-Evzones-1.jpg\" data-caption=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\" class=\"entry-thumb td-modal-image\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Upper-Darby-Evzones-1-640x480.jpg\"   alt=\"\" title=\"Upper Darby Evzones 1\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>UPPER DARBY, PA \u2013 GNUSA [Photos by St. Demetrios FB]<\/p>\n<p>A special and memorable encounter with the Evzones of the Hellenic Presidential Guard took place on Thursday afternoon, April 23, for the students of the Greek Afternoon School of the St. Demetrios community in Upper Darby.<\/p>\n<p>The Evzones\u2019 contingent, which will participate in the Greek Independence Day Parade in Philadelphia, PA, on Sunday, April 26, visited the St. Demetrios parish to give Greek American children the opportunity to learn more about this historic and honorable elite corps.<\/p>\n<p><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/upper-darby-evzones-2-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34869\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>The event unfolded in a deeply moving atmosphere, with nearly 80 Greek School students and their parents in attendance. The children had the chance to meet the Evzones up close, attend an educational presentation, ask questions, and converse in Greek with the officer leading the visit, strengthening their connection to Greek heritage.<\/p>\n<p>In a Facebook post, Fr. Alexandros Kaitidis, the community\u2019s presiding priest noted that \u201cas a gesture of gratitude and appreciation, the students sang the march Macedonia Xakousti, moving everyone present\u201d. \u00a0<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"768\" height=\"1024\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-pa\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/st-dem-upper-darby-evzones-4-768x1024.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-34972\"  \/><\/p>\n<p>He described the presence of the Evzones as a \u201cgreat honor for the community of St. Demetrios\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe would like to express our warmest thanks to the Federation of Hellenic American Societies of Philadelphia and Greater Delaware Valley for its support and contribution to the realization of this special event\u201d, Fr.
