WEST READING, Pa. – A volunteer at Reading hospital is celebrating a milestone.<\/p>\n
Mary Ellen Batman is marking 10,000 volunteer service hours.<\/p>\n
She started volunteering in the 1990s during her summers off while working as a teacher.<\/p>\n
Since then, she’s served the hospital in a number of ways, including as the former president of the Friends of Reading Hospital.<\/p>\n
Now, she serves as a wayfinder, escorting patients to their appointments and helping them navigate the hospital campus.<\/p>\n
She encourages everyone to volunteer.<\/p>\n
“I have found that when you volunteer, there’s no pressure. You’re gonna get out of it what you put into it. And it’s fun. And I’m glad that I can help people,” Mary Ellen said.<\/p>\n
Reading Hospital team members surprised Mary Ellen with flowers and Tower Health swag.
