An Upper Macungie Township distribution center plans to close before of the year and lay off 70 workers, according to Pennsylvania\u2019s Department of Labor and Industry<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The cuts are scheduled to go into effect Dec. 26 at Allen Distribution, 7058 Snowdrift Road. The confirmed number of employees impacted was announced this month in a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Act Notice<\/a> filed with the state department.<\/p>\n

The notice is mandated by U.S. labor law. It requires companies with 100 or more employees to provide 60 days\u2019 advance notification of plant closings and mass layoffs.<\/p>\n

Carlisle, Cumberland County-based Allen Distribution<\/a> was started in 1988 and operates as a privately owned logistics company. Its services include supply chain design, freight consolidation, custom packaging, temperature-controlled warehousing and transportation and order fulfillment, according to the company\u2019s website.<\/a><\/p>\n

The company continues to operate over 14 million square feet of warehouse space nationally, the website states.<\/p>\n

Lehigh County property records and a commercial sales listing show the 525,000-square-foot regional warehouse<\/a> sits on 32 acres in the Iron Run Corporate Center. The sale comes with 58 exterior loading docks, according to the listing.<\/p>\n

Prior to Allen Distribution owning in 2002, the property was the site of True Value hardware. That facility in 2019 reportedly moved to the Wilkes-Barre area in Luzerne County.<\/a> It sits in prime real estate near Route 100, between bustling Tilghman Street and Interstate 78.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s unclear what led up to the closure of the regional warehouse. A representative of Allen Distribution didn\u2019t immediately return a request for more details Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n
