ALLENTOWN, Pa. – An Allentown man facing charges for nearly striking a state trooper and several others in 2023 has been found guilty by a jury, according to the Lehigh County District Attorney\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
Paris Bartlett, 50, of Allentown, was found guilty of a felony charge of Fleeing or Attempting to Elude Police as well as misdemeanor charges of Accidents Involving Death or Injury While Not Licensed, Resisting Arrest, Reckless Endangerment and Possession of Drugs, according to the DA\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
The jury acquitted Bartlett of felony counts of Aggravated Assault, officials said.<\/p>\n
Bartlett\u2019s bail was revoked and he remains in Lehigh County Jail for a state parole violation arising from a prior felony conviction, the DA\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n
Bartlett\u2019s sentencing is scheduled for 9 a.m. on June 29, according to officials. He faces a possible sentence of 9 to 18 years in state prison.<\/p>\n
On June 16, 2023, Allentown Police Vice Officers as well as Pennsylvania State Police were in the area of South Third and West Union streets conducting a joint investigation.<\/p>\n
Authorities say that a marked Pennsylvania State Police vehicle attempted to stop Bartlett\u2019s car as part of a drug investigation.<\/p>\n
Bartlett initially stopped, but then reversed, striking an undercover police car, and then accelerated forward, nearly striking a state trooper, the DA\u2019s office said.<\/p>\n
That trooper fired two rounds from his handgun, striking Bartlett\u2019s windshield. Bartlett was not injured by the gunshots, according to officials.<\/p>\n
Bartlett then fled though the city of Allentown and nearly struck two pedestrians crossing Third Street and then drove the wrong way over the Hamilton Street bridge, forcing numerous vehicles to avoid hitting Bartlett\u2019s car, according to investigators.<\/p>\n
Bartlett led officers on a high speed police chase, where he drove through several stop signs and through a number of residential neighborhoods on Allentown\u2019s East Side.<\/p>\n
Bartlett struck a vehicle, injuring at least one person, and a marked Pennsylvania State Police vehicle before finally being stopped in the 500 block of South Carlisle Street, authorities said.<\/p>\n
