Chase Ritcey and Quinn Carson each scored two goals to help lead the University of Scranton past Catholic University, 9-7, in the Landmark Conference men\u2019s lacrosse championship game Saturday at Weiss Field.<\/p>\n
Ritcey opened the scoring and struck again in the third quarter. He was named the Most Valuable Player as the Royals (13-6) captured their fourth straight title and fifth overall, which is the most in conference history. They also are the first men\u2019s team in Landmark history to win four straight championships.<\/p>\n
Both of Carson\u2019s goals came in the final two minutes of the third quarter to give Scranton an 8-5 lead. Brendan Donohue provided an insurance goal early in the fourth. Cooper Roberts, Jason Kozak, Brian Kraemer and Kyle Holmes also scored for the Royals. Colin Giarruss and Thomas Popolizio each had three caused turnovers and goalie Carsen Kirchner made 14 saves.<\/p>\n
Scranton (13-6) has 12 straight wins and earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament. The bracket will be announced during the Selection Show on Sunday at 9 p.m. on NCAA.com.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s lacrosse<\/p>\n
At Scranton, Jillian Lopez collected five goals, one assist and five draw controls to lead the University of Scranton to their fourth straight Landmark Conference title, 16-11, over Catholic University in the final Saturday at Weiss Field.<\/p>\n
Lopez was named the Most Valuable Player for the second straight year. Her fourth goal was her 76th of the season, setting the single-season program record.<\/p>\n
Colleen Mullin also had five goals, which are a career-high, and one assist for the Royals. Eileen Hewitt collected nine draw controls, seven ground balls, five caused turnovers and one assist. Grace DiDominica had three assists and goalie Eva Guerino made 11 saves.<\/p>\n
Leading, 3-2, after one quarter, the Royals scored the first four goals of the second to extend the margin to 7-2. Catholic never drew closer than three goals the rest of the way.<\/p>\n
Scranton (15-4) gets the automatic bid to the NCAA Division III tournament. The field will be announced during the Selection Show on Monday at 10:30 a.m. on NCAA.com.<\/p>\n
Neumann 18, Marywood 13: At Aston, Marywood University lost to Neumann University, 18-13, in the Atlantic East Conference championship game.<\/p>\n
Natalie Yilanjian had four goals, one assist and three caused turnovers for the Pacers (11-7). Avery Meighan and Danica Kelly each had two goals and three assists. Meighan also totaled six ground balls and six draw controls. Alli Duncan scored two goals, Carly Lynch chipped in a goal and an assist and Alivia Backes had two goals and one assist. Kaitlyn Smith had two assists and nine ground balls. Jenna Scala and Jenny Keagy each made six saves.<\/p>\n
Softball<\/p>\n
At West Windsor Twp., New Jersey, Lackawanna College had its season end with a 3-2 loss to Delaware Tech Community College in the elimination final at the NJCAA Region 19 Division II tournament at Mercer County Community College.<\/p>\n
Delaware Tech scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh for the walkoff victory after Laniah Tasker gave the Lady Falcons the lead in the top of the seventh with an RBI single.<\/p>\n
Ayahna Fleisher had three hits, while Tasker and Kyleah Edwards finished with two hits apiece for Lackawanna (41-15), which set a program record for wins in a season. It also was the final game at the junior college level as the school moves up to NCAA Division II and the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.<\/p>\n
Neumann 6, Marywood 5; Marywood 8, Saint Elizabeth 7 (8 inn.): At Arlington, Virginia, Marywood University split at the Atlantic East Conference tournament, losing its first game to Neumann University, but beating Saint Elizabeth University in eight innings in an elimination game.<\/p>\n
In the opener, Marywood rallied for four runs in the top of the seventh inning to tie the game, 5-5. But Neumann scored a run in the bottom of the seventh to earn the victory. Kat Davis, Marissa Hoffman and Alex Dusman each had two hits for the Pacers and Marley Sarafinko had two RBIs.<\/p>\n
Marywood scored five runs in the bottom of the sixth inning of the nightcap to take a 7-6 lead, but Saint Elizabeth tied it in the top of the seventh. But in the bottom of the eighth, the Pacers loaded the bases on a double by Ariana Shellman, a walk and a fielder\u2019s choice. A throwing error allowed Shellman to score the winning run.<\/p>\n
Davis and Marissa Hoffman each had three hits and one RBI for Marywood, which collected 19 hits. Sarafinko added two hits and two RBIs. Shellman, Tori Para, Lauryn Notari and Dusman all contributed two hits apiece.<\/p>\n
On Sunday at noon, Marywood (20-15) meets Neumann in the elimination final. The winner advances to play Marymount for the championship and would have to beat the Saints twice.<\/p>\n
Baseball<\/p>\n
At Scranton, needing two wins to reach the Atlantic East Conference playoffs, Marywood University swept a doubleheader from Neumann University, 5-0 and 5-3. It is the first time since 2015 the Pacers qualified for the postseason.<\/p>\n
Isaac Galarza tossed a four-hit shutout with no walks and two strikeouts in the first game for Marywood. Nick Ruiz had two hits and Joel Ayers drove in two runs.<\/p>\n
Neumann jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning in the second game. But Marywood kept the Knights hitless for the final 7.1 innings and rallied to tie with solo runs in the bottom of the first, fourth and fifth innings. Then in the bottom of the eighth, Ayers drew a bases-loaded walk to force home the go-ahead run and Evan Bruder hit a sacrifice fly to add an insurance run for the Pacers.<\/p>\n
Adam Ginsberg had two hits and A.J. Kuzior hit a solo home run for Marywood (24-15), which will be the No. 4 seed for the playoffs and face No. 1 Centenary University on Wednesday in the first round.<\/p>\n
Women\u2019s tennis<\/p>\n
At Williamsport, the top-seeded University of Scranton lost to No. 2 Moravian University, 4-3, in the Landmark Conference final at the Central PA Tennis Center.<\/p>\n
