The City of Erie helped residents clean up safely this weekend, hosting a drive-through recycling event for tires and electronics.<\/p>\n

The annual event, which was held at the Municipal Garage Complex on Holland Street, gave residents a chance to dispose of their unusual trash items.<\/p>\n

\u2018We\u2019re just helping people\u2019 \u2014 Local families receive donations thanks to Sarah\u2019s Great Giveaway <\/a><\/p>\n

Residents drove their cars through a makeshift drive-through setup where workers took the electronics or tires from the cars and placed them in a designated area to be disposed of properly.<\/p>\n

Accepted items included things like computers, monitors, printers, keyboards and speakers.<\/p>\n

\u201cOld TVs can have lead in them, so we break them down, we recycle as much of the metals and valuable products as possible, and then we dispose of any hazardous material correctly,\u201d said Sarah Peelman, sustainability coordinator for the City of Erie.<\/p>\n

City officials said events like this help reduce environmental hazards, while also making disposal easier for the community.<\/p>\n
