FORECAST SUMMARY<\/p>\n
For the second straight week, we opened up the work and school week with a sun-soaked 70\u00b0 day. And we’ll sneak in an even nicer and warmer day on Tuesday, as highs surge past the 80\u00b0 mark for the first time since mid-April. It also looks like it will be one-and-done with the 80-degree high temperatures, as a cooler and wetter pattern sets up thereafter. It will begin with some rain on Wednesday and lingering showers on Thursday, along with highs settling back into the 60s. We’ll manage a mostly dry day on Friday, albeit cool and breezy for early May, before another cloudy and showery day may set up for the start of Mother’s Day weekend on Saturday. Thankfully, Sunday may turn out mostly dry (but still cool) for moms on Sunday, before another round of rain arrives later Sunday night into Monday. There’s no severe weather or flooding risks with any of these rounds of wet weather. Rather, it’s a series of small dents in our ongoing drought and largely beneficial rain, unless you have outdoor plans on any of those wet days. Highs will mostly be in the 60s from Wednesday onward, below our average high (low 70s) for early May.<\/p>\n
DETAILED FORECAST<\/p>\n
TONIGHT<\/p>\n
We’ll start out mostly clear this evening, then turn partly cloudy overnight. There could be a passing shower or two between midnight through around sunrise, but most of the night is dry. Look for a milder night than recent nights, with lows mostly in the low 50s. Those brisk daytime breezes will diminish to less than 10mph overnight.<\/p>\n
TUESDAY<\/p>\n
This will certainly be the warmest day of the week, and warmest day for a while, with highs expected to be above 80 degrees, for the first time since April 16-17th. While there could some clouds or a spotty shower first thing in the morning around sunrise, skies should quickly become partly to mostly sunny for the balance of the day. Outside of a spotty late day shower north\/west of the I-81 corridor, the daytime hours should be mostly dry, with sunshine allowing highs to climb to around 80-85\u00b0 by afternoon. It will be another breezy day with southwest winds around 15-20mph, gusting to 30mph, which coupled with the dryness could lead to elevated fire danger across the area during the day.<\/p>\n
WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY<\/p>\n
Wednesday gets the nod as the wettest day of the week, as a cold front slowly approaches and makes its way through the area. Expect a cloudy, cooler, and wetter day with periods of rain developing Wednesday morning, and continuing into the afternoon before tapering off to scattered showers or drizzle by Wednesday night. As a weak wave of low pressure develops along that front Thursday, we could see some light rain or rain showers redevelop on Thursday, especially from the Lehigh Valley south and east, but it won’t be as wet as Wednesday for most. Highs will drop back into the upper 60s on Wednesday, and fall back farther into the low 60s on Thursday. Rainfall amounts from both days combined look to be around a \u00bd inch on average, less south and east of the Lehigh Valley, a little more points north and west.<\/p>\n
FRIDAY<\/p>\n
We should be able to sneak in a mainly dry day on Friday, but it will be cool and a bit breezy as our mid-week system departs. Expect partly sunny skies, with a westerly breeze around 10-15mph with gusts to 20-25mph. Highs will be in the low 60s once again, about 10 degrees cooler than our early May average high (low 70s).<\/p>\n
MOTHER’S DAY WEEKEND<\/p>\n
While mom’s big weekend won’t be the warm sunshine she deserves, the news isn’t all bad either, especially for Sunday. On Saturday, yet another system will come out of the Great Lakes and slide on through. While it won’t be a prolific rainmaker, it should produce a mainly cloudy and cool Saturday with at least some showers around. Rainfall amounts look to be under a quarter of an inch, with highs kind of cool thanks to plentiful clouds, mostly in the low to mid 60s. We’ll try to tuck in a partly sunny and mostly dry Mother’s Day on Sunday, with highs inching up towards 70 degrees, before more rain likely arrives later Sunday night and Monday.<\/p>\n
