Camera angles available to the broadcast and videoboard appeared to show the puck not crossing the goal line, and officials did not go to the penalty box to review the play on a tablet that provides a feed from the overhead net camera. A clip from that overhead video was later sent to the broadcast booth and posted on social media, confirming the puck did go in.

The finish was dramatic, but the Bears had put themselves in position to close out the game before it ever got to overtime. Hershey led 3-2 with two minutes left in regulation before a miscommunication in the corner led to a turnover. Avery Hayes collected and put a shot on net at 17:07 of the third period to tie it, sending the game to overtime. Hayes finished with two goals on the night.

“A little miscommunication in the corner,” Bears head coach Derek King said. “We should have maybe flipped it out or ate it and lived to fight another day. We kind of turned it over, and then the guy beats us to the net, and nobody’s picking him up, and it’s an easy tip-in.”

The Penguins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first period on goals by Phil Kemp at 3:15 and Mikhail Ilyin at 6:16, both assisted by Tristan Broz. Hershey answered with two goals of its own to tie the game before the period ended. Ivan Miroshnichenko scored at 9:49, and Bogdan Trineyev tied it at 18:09 on the power play, his third goal of the playoffs.

Brett Leason gave Hershey the lead just 37 seconds into the second period, finishing off a pass from Grant Cruikshank to make it 3-2. That score held until Hayes tied it late in the third.

Tristan Broz had three assists for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton. Ville Koivunen added two assists.

King said the Bears need to do a better job tracking the opposing team’s defensemen jumping into the play.

“We can’t lose our F3,” he said. “We gotta track harder. They jump in the play all the time, so we can’t just stand there and watch them skate by us.”

King was also asked about whether the tying goal should have been a penalty.

“I think it was a penalty myself,” he said, “but they have a tough job to do, and that’s their call.”

Clay Stevenson stopped 23 of 27 shots for Hershey. Sergei Murashov made 26 saves on 29 shots for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

2026 Calder Cup Playoffs Atlantic Division Semifinals Schedule | Hershey vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton:

Game 1 | Thursday, April 23 | Wilkes-Barre/Scranton wins 4-2Game 2 – Saturday, May 2 | Hershey wins 2-1Game 3 – Tuesday, May 5 | Wilkes-Barre/Scranton wins 4-3 (OT)Game 4 – Thursday, May 7 vs. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton | 7 p.m.Game 5* – Saturday, May 9 at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton | 6 p.m. FOX43.2 Antenna TV

A late turnover erased Hershey’s lead and forced overtime, where Wilkes-Barre/Scranton capitalized to swing momentum in the series.…

[15
178,180,179
post-184978","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-scranton","tag-scranton","tag-scranton-headlines","tag-scranton-news
["GET
