\t\tEditorial Standards \u24d8<\/a><\/p>\n \n\t\t\t\t\t\tStudents at Pittsburgh Lincoln PreK-5 braved the rain to participate in the annual Walk and Roll to School event on Wednesday, traveling from Liberty Green Park to school by walking, biking or hoverboarding.\u201cWe\u2019ve done this for a couple of years now, but now I have a teacher that has taken over to meet kids, to bring them on their bikes, their skates, scooters, hoverboards, whatever they like to go, and just bring them safely to school, walking and rolling,\u201d said Pamela Parks, principal of Pittsburgh Lincoln.The event promotes active transportation, raises awareness about safe routes to school and encourages healthy habits for students.Mayor Corey O\u2019Connor said the city is working to address gaps families encounter on their routes to school. \u201cWhether it\u2019s curb cuts, sidewalks, tree fell down blocking somebody\u2019s access — all of those little details matter, and I think it\u2019s good to get a perspective of where the kids are all walking from in different neighborhoods,\u201d O\u2019Connor said. The event took place at Pittsburgh Public Schools across the city, but it was especially impactful at Lincoln, which is a walking school.\u201cA lot of my kids just walk by themselves, so it makes them feel much safer.
