EASTON, Pa. – From a brownfield to full redevelopment: $2.3 million in state funding looks to give the 14-acre Easton Iron and Metal site on Bushkill Drive new life as “The Foundry.”<\/p>\n
The mixed-use property will include 200 rental units and 20,000 square feet of commercial use.<\/p>\n
“I think it’s a huge project for Easton. The Bushkill corridor has been a focus of the city for the last 20 years going back to the development of the Simon Silk Mill,” said Jared Mast, executive director of the Greater Easton Development Partnership.<\/p>\n
The funding is through the highly competitive Mixed-Use Housing Development Pilot Program. Senator Lisa Boscola helped bring the money in.<\/p>\n
“We don’t have the $2.3 million to clean it up, so we’re really appreciative of Senator Boscola’s efforts,” said Easton Mayor Sal Panto.<\/p>\n
VM Development Group, the preferred developer for this project, previously redeveloped the nearby Simon Silk Mill.<\/p>\n
“VM came in as the best possible partner developed that site and bring it back to life and bring new tax ratables onto the tax rolls and more people living, shopping and spending money in Easton,” said Mast.<\/p>\n
This project is one of seven to have received state grant funding this week. Mayor Panto said places at The Foundry will be at market rate.<\/p>\n
