HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) \u2014 State lawmakers are one step closer to doing away with the second windshield sticker on cars registered in Pennsylvania\u2019s largest counties.<\/p>\n
Senate Bill 1298 would end the annual vehicle emissions testing program in the 25 counties it is currently required.<\/p>\n
Senator Wayne Langerholc, Jr. (R-Cambria) introduced the bill last July.<\/a><\/p>\n It passed the Senate 29-21 on Wednesday.<\/p>\n \u201cPeople are being squeezed from every direction, and the last thing they should be forced to bankroll are outdated mandates that do nothing but drain their wallets,\u201d Langerholc said. \u201cIf a mandate doesn\u2019t serve the public anymore, it has no business siphoning money from working families.\u201d<\/p>\n In addition to removing the emissions testing requirement in 25 counties, the bill also says no additional counties can be added to the program.<\/p>\n Pennsylvania requires annual safety inspections in every county and emissions inspections in 25 densely populated counties.
