BETHLEHEM, Pa. | Authorities allege a Bethlehem man earlier this year provided a woman with a fatal dose of fentanyl.<\/p>\n
Bethlehem police charged Tomas J. Santos in connection with the overdose death of a woman found in a Wawa parking lot in March. Authorities charged the 30-year-old with single felony counts of drug delivery resulting in death and delivery of a controlled substance.<\/p>\n
On March 29, police were dispatched to the Wawa at 741 E. Broad St. shortly after 8 a.m. to investigate a report of an unresponsive woman in a vehicle in the parking lot, according to a news release from Chief Mark DiLuzio. Emergency personnel found the dead woman slumped over the steering wheel.<\/p>\n
The Northampton County Coroner\u2019s Office ruled the woman died from an accidental fentanyl overdose.<\/p>\n
Investigators said they found drugs in the car, and surveillance footage reportedly shows that she met with a man in a red Ford Focus about 5 p.m. the day before she was discovered. The surveillance footage allegedly shows a \u201ctransaction occurring,\u201d according to the news release.<\/p>\n
Authorities said they investigated cell phone communications, which led them to identify Santos as the man in the Ford Focus in the Wawa parking lot. Police said they secured search warrants on Monday for Santos and his East Sixth Street home. Detectives saw him driving the Ford Focus, and he was stopped in the 1400 block of East Sixth Street.<\/p>\n
District Judge Nancy Matos Gonzalez arraigned Santos Friday evening, setting bail at $75,000.
